Lesson 4: Unusual Pets

Welcome to our lecture on Australian animals.
Iguanas are reptiles and therefore cold-blooded. Owners need to help them keep warm. You can use a light bulb for heat, but they also need lots of sunlight. Iguanas eat leaves, vegetables and fruit. They love to climb, so let them out from time to time!
Wallabies are marsupials, so babies grow in their mothers’ pouches. As pets, they will take milk from a bottle. Their fur develops as they grow older. They should be kept outside in a pen with high fencing. You need to make sure there is plenty of shade.
The best pet snakes are ball pythons. They can live in a cage with a secure lid. Humidity and heat are very important for pythons. They are active at night, so they need a plastic or wood hide box to sleep in during daylight hours. Adult pythons eat a large mouse or rabbit every 2 to 3 weeks.
