Lesson 2: Sydney Tower

On your first sight of Sydney, Australia, you will see a high tower, which looks like a giant needle. This is the AMP Tower, which is 305 metres high, making it the tallest building in the southern part of the world. Three lifts can carry up to 2,000 visitors an hour. The trip up or down takes only 40 seconds. For emergencies, there are also 1,504 stairs from the top to the bottom of the tower. The building is very safe, because it is wind and earthquake proof.
From the top of the tower you can see the whole city below. Visitors may use the high power binoculars for free. You get a great view of one of the most beautiful harbours in the world.
The top of the tower contains a turret that has seven floors held in place by 56 strong cables. The restaurant floor in the turret turns 360 degrees. The designers built in thousands of fire sprinklers, making the AMP Tower one of the safest buildings in the world. The tower has 420 windows, and it takes two days to clean them all.
Last but not least, the Sydney Tower has the highest post box in Australia.
