Lesson 1: Wish You Were Here!

Dear Kate and Mike,
we arrived in London four days ago and we are having a lot of fun. We are very glad that we chose to come here.
We are travelling by the Underground. It covers the whole city, doesn’t get stuck in traffic, and runs twenty hours a day. The weekly travel card is not expensive. Did you know that people used the Underground stations as shelters during World War II? We learned that at the Museum of Transport!
We visited the British Museum on our first day. At Covent Garden we had lunch and shopped. Then we took a one and a half hour tour of the Royal Opera House. We bought each of you a poster from there.
The next day we woke up a little late and went to Buckingham Palace after a walk through the park. We also saw and heard Big Ben. In the afternoon, we visited Westminster Abbey. You can find the burial places of many kings and queens within its walls.
The weather is grey and wet, but we expected that. Luckily, we have our umbrellas! In spite of the rain, young people play music on the streets. They are probably used to the weather.
There is so much to do. There are so many museums, buildings, theatres and markets to visit. One week is not enough time-next time we want you to come with us.
We miss you!
Love,
Mum and Dad
